Unranked Grapevine Faith Sweeps Into Gold Bracket

Four of the 39 teams at the second annual Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) Spike Down Classic in Tyler (and Bullard) on Friday won all eight sets in their four matches to pace 16 teams into Saturday’s Gold Bracket at All Saints Episcopal School.

San Antonio Incarnate Word High School, Grapevine Faith Christian School, Willow Park Trinity Christian Academy and Plano Prestonwood Christian Academy swept their respective pools while Austin St. Michael’s Catholic Academy, Austin Hyde Park High School, Regents School of Austin and The Woodlands John Cooper School won the remaining pools.

The only other SPC school besides John Cooper – Episcopal School of Dallas – also made Saturday’s Gold Bracket by going second in Pool C – its only loss coming to pool champion Grapevine Faith Christian by just seven set points.

Of the remaining 14 TAPPS teams in the Gold Bracket, Grapevine Faith Christian and Austin Hyde Park High School will be the only two that were not ranked in top 10 in their classifications by fellow coaches in the TAPPS Krossover Coaches Polls.

Hyde Park High School entered the Spike Down Classic with a pair of 3-0 wins on Monday and Tuesday over pre-season state-ranked teams Austin Brentwood Christian and Round Rock Christian Academy. RRCA is also in Saturday’s Gold bracket while Brentwood Christian was only able to best League City Bay Area Christian School in Pool C and will be in Saturday’s Bronze Bracket at Brook Hill School in Bullard.
