Proverbs 20:3 “It is to one’s honor to avoid strife, but every fool is quick to quarrel.”
What is your natural bent when facing confrontation? Some are quick to lash out and defend turf. They don’t mind a fight. Some even like it. Others quietly chew on anger and allow it to brew inside. They say nothing to the offender, but they may slander later behind their back. Both responses are foolish. They are wrong. The Lord says “avoid strife.” Note we avoid strife, but avoiding confrontation is not the same. When facing such times, do so with the heart of God. Make sure you understand the reason for strife, and seek to find a solution. It might be a misunderstanding that can be easily resolved. It could be an intentional attack, to which constructive confrontation is appropriate. A wise person will strive to do so without a hurtful quarrel. The Lord will lead those who seek His wisdom. We’re foolish if we don’t.
Lord, thank You for courage and wisdom to overcome strife. Empower us to steer away from unhealthy quarrels. Fill us with conscious desire to be effective role models.
Rise above strife today.
