Luke 2:25, 29-32 “Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. …..’Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all nations: a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.’ ”
Simeon was a righteous leader in the temple, anointed to perform ceremonial circumcisions. The Holy Spirit revealed that he would see the “Lord’s Messiah” before leaving this world. As Joseph and Mary brought Jesus into the Temple, the Holy Spirit showed Simeon that this child was the One! Note the added revelation: ..”a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.” Jews were taught they were Chosen People, and Messiah was coming for them. Gentiles were reviled and avoided. God revealed through Simeon that Messiah was for all nations. Jesus would be the sacrificial lamb for all peoples….those who would receive His gift of grace would be saved. This was a stumbling block for religious leaders and a major reason they would plot to kill Jesus many years later. Jesus preached the inclusive nature of salvation and the exclusive Truth of eternal life to those who receive Him. The same is true today. Praise God for eternal life to ALL who receive Jesus.
Lord, thank You for righteous leaders such as Simeon. Inspire us to understand the inclusive nature of salvation. Empower us to share with all nations. Give us courage and strength to love our enemies into the Kingdom.
Have eyes of Christ today.
