1 John 2:16-17 “For everything in the world – the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life – comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.”
Genesis 3, the recount of man’s fall to Satan in the Garden, is not a fairy tale. It depicts craftiness of evil and unfortunate choice that Eve and Adam made. What was perfection no longer was. It shows what happens when obedience to God is less important than momentary enticement. God made everything, and it can be used for good when pleasing the Lord is #1 priority. We get in trouble (Just like Adam & Eve) when our eyes pause on temporal lusts and self-pleasure. Understand the raging battle between good & evil. It is not a game. Understand, too, that those who have surrendered to Jesus Christ are on the winning side. Dressing in the armor of God and standing firm with Him against evil makes it possible to overcome the world. Use the power of choice to seek and do God’s will. Recall Scripture to resist damning enticements of this world. That’s how we find lasting joy.
Lord, thank You for warnings about worldly lusts. Allow us to see them for what they are and keep us girded with Scripture to avoid falling from grace. Arm us to fight for good and add to the numbers who surrender to You.
Do God’s will today.
