Thought For The Day by Al Boulden

James 3:16 “For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.”

“What’s in it for me?”…. a natural thought whose root is sin nature. Satan loves to ring the “selfish” bell, which breeds envy, and ambitious back-biting. Envy is fear or anger that someone else has more. Selfish ambition is drive to climb higher than others solely for personal gain. The Holy Spirit fills Believers with a different paradigm. Instead of self-promotion, drive evolves to glorify God. “How can I serve?” becomes the new inner thought. We recognize talents/skills come from the Lord, and we desire to maximize use in order to please God. We celebrate others when they move up or get new things. We share their joy. In a group or Company, we recognize that individual position is secondary to what is best for the Company. We gladly take the role where we best serve the bigger cause. When that becomes the common attitude, disorder and evil cannot survive.

Lord, thank You for making clear the danger of envy and selfish ambition. Fill us with desire to serve You and glorify You in all we do. Help us recognize the gifts from You so that we use them to our very best. Empower us to be promoters of peace and unity.

Fight envy and selfish ambition today.
