Four of the top five preseason ranked TAPPS 3A teams – Rockwall Heritage Christian Academy, Willow Park Trinity Christian Academy, Round Rock Christian Academy and Midland Classical School – made Saturday’s Gold bracket at the second annual TAPPS Spike Down Classic in Tyler.
Only fourth-ranked Irving The Highlands School, who was swept in pool play on Friday, landed outside of the Gold bracket, but rebounded to play well on Saturday, winning two of three, to capture the consolation champion in the Copper bracket.
Sixth-ranked Temple Central Texas Christian will compete in its first tournament Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Bruceville-Eddy High School in Eddy, but went 3-0 in the opening week of play with wins over Holland, the CenTex HomeSchool Chargers and Bartlett.
The Lions opened up Tuesday with a 27-25, 25-16, 25-23 sweep of Holland on the road before returning home Thursday and Friday for their 25-14, 25-18, 25-14 and 25-10, 25-18, 25-10 sweeps of the Chargers and Bulldogs.
Seventh-ranked Austin Hill Country Christian School lost its home opener Tuesday night to Waco Live Oak Classical and competed in the Baytown Christian Invitational on Friday and Saturday. (Any results involving Hill Country Christian were unavailable at the time of posting.)
The Sacred Heart Booster Club is the page to keep up with all of Hallettsville Sacred Heart‘s sports and it seems that they’re reporting the Indianettes of Wanda Orsak are 3-3.
Sacred Heart opened on Tuesday night splitting a pair of four-set matches, winning against Tidehaven but losing to Palacios.
The Indianettes travelled west on Highway 90 to take part in Shiner High School’s tournament on Thursday and Friday. The 2016 regional finalist defeated Flatonia 2-1 (25-18, 21-25, 25-15) and lost to Yoakum.
On Friday, the Victoria Advocate reported that Sacred Heart fell to host Shiner 2-0 (25-19, 25-20) and defeated Nixon-Smiley 2-0 (25-16, 25-15); however, the Booster Club Facebook page reported that the Indianettes were second overall in the Purple bracket.
Ninth-ranked Dallas Lakehill Prep was idle over the weekend after opening the season Tuesday night with a three-set win over Plano Coram Deo, according to TAPPSter.com. The Warriors will face Dallas Shelton School on Tuesday before taking part in the Willow Park Trinity Christian Academy tournament this weekend.
Tenth-ranked Denton Calvary Academy participated in the Princeton ISD Tournament on Friday and Saturday and results posted to MaxPreps.com included a pair of losses to Grand Saline 2-0 (25-20, 25-18) and Gunter 2-0 (25-10, 25-20)
