Few Surprises In Latest TAPPS Volleyball Coaches Polls

The Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) released its first in-season state volleyball rankings earlier today, as voted on by their coaches — or not!

Released via the organization’s Twitter feed @TAPPSbiz, new rankings were announced for classes 2A through 6A.

However, TAPPS also posted that none of their Class 1A coaches had voted this week.

This despite eight of those 10 top-ranked schools posting results in the organization’s information portal, TAPPSter.com, through the end of the weekend.

Austin Hyde Park head volleyball coach Renee Blanchard knew things would change this week after working their way through the second annual TAPPS Spike Down Classic before losing in the championship to The Woodlands John Cooper School of the SPC.

Previously unranked, and having defeated district foe Austin St. Michael’s Catholic Academy in the quarterfinals, the Panthers were vaulted all the way to Class 5A’s top spot.

One Class 5A school that wasn’t elevated higher than it was Grapevine Faith Christian.

Despite having defeated TAPPS’ top 3A team Rockwall Heritage Christian, while a higher-ranked team lost to the second-ranked 3A team, and having faced the tournament champion John Cooper and a top 6A program in San Antonio Incarnate Word High School, the Lions were brought into the rankings in the sixth spot.

In Class 6A, Plano Prestonwood Christian and Incarnate Word traded spots, while all other spots remained the same.

Two other teams could be feeling a little bruised today — Willow Park Trinity Christian and Lubbock All Saints Episcopal School in classes 3A and 2A, respectively.

Although top-ranked Rockwall Heritage Christian and Willow Park both lost to 6A Holy Cross of San Antonio in the Gold consolation bracket, Trinity Christian defeated a pair of 5A ranked teams in Regents School of Austin and Tyler All Saints Episcopal.

Additionally, Lubbock All Saints Episcopal fell a spot despite taking on a pair of UIL 4A regional semifinalist a year ago in Denver City and Graham at the Shallowater Tournament.

New teams in the lower classification rankings included Waco Reicher Catholic in the fifth position in 4A, Spring Frassati Catholic in the number eight spot in 3A after winning the Outback Steakhouse Baytown Christian Academy Invitational and Red Oak Ovilla Christian, Spring Providence Classical School and Austin Waldorf School in fifth, eighth and tenth in 2A.
