One of the state’s premier private school tournaments kicks off today in the Metroplex. The Active Faith Texas Private School Classic is back in 2016 with 26 teams with games played at five locations over three days.
Prestonwood Christian Academy, our top ranked team in TAPPS 5A, gets underway tonight at 7:30 vs Tyler All Saints. The Lions are led by seniors Ryan Cash and Jonathan Heasley, both Oklahoma State signees. The top team in TAPPS 3A will also participate. The defending state champion Lubbock Christian might have the toughest draw in this years tournament. The Eagles play tonight at 7:30 vs 4A power Fort Worth Christian and will play two games Friday versus Colleyville Covenant and Dallas Christian. Lubbock Christian is the only 3A squad in the gold division of the tournament.
The schedule also features two of the 4A state tournament teams from a year ago: host school Fort Worth Christian and Austin St. Michaels. The Cardinals will face Liberty Christian and Brook Hill on Friday while St. Michaels will play Midland Christian, Bishop Lynch, and host Plano John Paul II.
Silver division teams are: Southwest Christian (host), Rosehill Christian, Coram Deo, Brook Hill, Lubbock Trinity Christian, Dallas Home School Athletic Association, Grace Prep, and Tyler Grace. The Silver division championship will take place Saturday at 5 P.M. at Southwest Christian.
Gold division teams are: Colleyville Covenant (host), Fort Worth Christian (host), Midland Christian, Plano John Paul II (host), Prestonwood Christian (host), Grapevine Faith, Liberty Christian, Nolan Catholic, Bishop Lynch, Frisco Legacy Christian, Lubbock Christian, Tyler All Saints, THESA, St. Dominic Savio, Dallas Christian, St. Michaels, and TK Gorman. The gold division championship will be played Saturday night at 7:30 P.M. at Plano John Paul II.
