BIRDVILLE (November 30, 2017) – In a battle of big plays the ball bounced Prestonwood Christian Academy’s way as it avenged one of its losses this season with a 55-48 victory over Fort Worth All Saints to advance to the TAPPS Division I Championship for the second time in three years.
The Lions opened the scoring when Billy Pullen recovered a fumble in the end zone. After the Saints tied the score on Mason Suitt‘s 7-yard TD reception, Prestonwood’s Ricky Baker returned the ensuing kickoff 98 yards to give the Lions their second lead.
The lead only lasted 1:26 as the Saint’s Jacob Matlock ripped off a 70-yard TD run to knot the game at 14.
Prestonwood got the lead right back on Josh Cunningham‘s 2-yard run, then opened up a two touchdown lead thanks to a fumble recovery on a strip sack for the game’s only turnover. Wiley Green tossed a 23-yard TD pass to Austin Stogner to give the Lions a 28-14 lead. The teams exchanged scores throughout the rest of the game as the lead varied between seven and 14 points the rest of the way.
Each quarterback threw for more than 340 yards. Green completed 19 of 22 passes for 341 and 3 touchdowns for Prestonwood. Shaun Taylor threw for 350 yards and 4 touchdowns for the Saints.
