The Kelly Catholic Bulldogs played for a state title in 2015 and Coach Jimmy Neale has his sights on the same destination in 2016. After playoff wins over Brownsville St. Joseph and a pair of Dallas-area schools (Bishop Lynch, TCA), the Bulldogs fell by a run to district rival Concordia Lutheran in the title game.

Coach Neale enters his 4th season at Kelly and returns 4 starters from the 2015 squad (16-10 overall, 5-4 district). Gone are graduates Ford Proctor (Rice), Allonte Wingate (UH), and Andrew Pace (Panola). The Bulldogs return all-state CF Jake Dickerson, who has signed with New Mexico JC. Also returning are shortstop Josh Lamb (JR) and left-handed pitcher Thomas Burbank (SO). The Bulldogs will seek to establish some starting pitching depth before district play rolls around and hope to break in a new catcher, unnamed at this point.

Coach Neale has some pretty basic goals for the season, “to compete in every game we play, and to maintain the respectability we’ve received over the past couple years.” If the Bulldogs can nail down a solid second starter, they should be a lock for the playoffs again and compete for the district championship.
