FW All Saints Downs FW Southwest Christian to Nab 2nd in TAPPS 1-5A

WILLOW PARK (February 13) – Both the Dallas Christian and Frisco Legacy Christian coaching staffs were in attendance Tuesday night and were as eager as the fans to witness the outcome of the TAPPS 1-5A playoff seed-determining contest between Fort Worth All Saints Episcopal and Fort Worth Southwest Christian.

The two teams, which finished second and third to TAPPS 5A’s top-ranked team Cedar Hill Trinity Christian, would meet the two in the area round to open up the 2017-2018 playoffs.

During district play, 61 seemed to be the magic number as the Saints and the Eagles split their head-to-head matchups scoring exactly that many points to take home the “W”.

And the Saints would not disappoint, scoring 60 points – getting 18 from Brendan Harmon and 11 more from Mason Suitt – to post an 18-point victory over Southwest Christian and secure the second-place position in TAPPS 1-5A.

All Saints Episcopal moved to 14-16 with the victory while Southwest Christian fell to 22-13.

Dallas Christian will travel Saturday to All Saints for a 1 p.m. matchup, while Frisco Legacy Christian will host Southwest Christian on Friday with a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.

The Saints struck first with the first of two three-pointers from Logan Medina, pushed the first quarter lead to as many as six (10-4) before Southwest Christian got a three-point play from Zack Swift with 34.9 seconds left in the quarter to tie it at 14-all.

All Saints went on a 7-0 run from there, getting a pair of baskets from Harmon and J. Robinson that came as a result of steals at midcourt.

Southwest Christian answered with its own 7-point run to knot the score at 21-all with 3:20 left in the second quarter on the strength of one of three 3-pointers from Artan Jabbar and baskets from Amir Crowder and Brett Boynton.

Easton Fehler and Suitt answered with a trey each to give All Saints the five-point, 27-22 advantage at halftime.

After Jabbar answered with a three 47 seconds into third quarter to cut the Saints lead to two (27-25), Suitt nailed two more three-point baskets and Medina another to quickly go on top by 11.

Less than two minutes later, Swift and Jabbar would each add a bucket to trim the margin to seven, 36-29, but that would be the closest that the Eagles would get the remainder of the evening.

SOUTHWEST CHRISTIAN (42) – Jason Norman 0 0-0 0, Cameron Hodges 1 2-2 4, Zack Swift 6 1-3 13, Artan Jabbar 4 2-2 13, Amir Crowder 2 1-2 5, Brett Boynton 2 0-2 4, Josh Holt 0 3-4 3. TOTALS – 15 9-15 42.
