Fort Bend Christian Starts BCS Tourney with Walk Off

Emily Ferguson drove in the only run in a 1-0 Fort Bend Christian win over Belton.

BRYAN – The Fort Bend Christian Eagles softball team walked off a winner to start the Bryan/College Station softball tournament with an extra-inning, 1-0 win over the Belton Tigers. Pitcher Tessa Cantrell went the distance for the Lady Eagles in the shutout win.

Heading to extra innings of a scoreless game, the Lady Tigers threatened in the top half of the 8th with a single that advanced the runner at second due to the international tie breaker. Eagles catcher Kati Ray Brown made a diving catch on a popup bunt before Cantrell forced a ground out to end the inning. In the bottom half of the inning, Danielle Sonnier singled to advance Stacey Hine. With two outs, junior Emily Ferguson hit a single through the middle of the infield to score Hine and secure the 1-0 victory.

The Lady Eagles advance to face the winner of the Pasadena Dobie versus Round Rock matchup.
