Former Plano Prestonwood Christian Academy graduate Hanna Harrison closed today’s second round of the NCAA Division II Preview tournament at Houston’s Bay Oaks Country Club with a second best 1-under par, 71.
And along with teammate Addison Mitchell’s identical 71, it gave the Patriots a second-place finish among 14 teams with a 16-over par, 592 – just six strokes behind tournament champion Nova Southeastern University.
After Monday’s first round, Dallas Baptist was tied for seventh.
It is Dallas Baptist’s third team podium finish in as many tournaments to start the 2017-2018 campaign.
Harrison, who helped lead Prestonwood Christian to the 2016 TAPPS 5A women’s golf championship, was tied for fourth with a two-day total of 146, two over par.
A WGCA second-team All-American selection a year ago and ranked 31st nationally, Harrison has started her sophomore season a bit slower than expected.
She finished 11- and 16-over par – tied for 32nd and 60th places, respectively — in the Patriots’ first two tournaments of the collegiate year.
Harrison hopes, however, to regain the form that helped pace Dallas Baptist to a second place overall finish at last year’s NCAA Division II national championship in Findlay, Ohio – a place where she tied for fourth after carding a 13-over par, 301.
Dallas Baptist returns to action on October 9-10 at its own DBU Women’s Fall Classic before competing two weeks later in the NCCAA National Championships in Palm Coast, Florida.
